Akamai: Akamai Technologies, Inc., is a company that provides a distributed computing platform for global Internet content and application delivery. Solutionpark is the Swiss Alliance Partner for Akamai Technologies.

Annual General Meeting: An annual general meeting (AGM) is a meeting that official bodies, and associations involving the public (including companies with shareholders), are often required by law (or the constitution, charter, by-laws etc. governing the body) to hold. An AGM is held every year to elect the Board of Directors and inform their members of previous and future activities. It is an opportunity for the shareholders and partners to receive copies of the company’s accounts as well as reviewing fiscal information for the past year and asking any questions regarding the decisions the business will take in the future.

Briefing: Briefings are a short and concise summary of a situation or description of a situation that is usually prepared by a communication professional for an assignment for an advertising, media, PR or other communications agency.

Broadcasting: Broadcasting is the distribution of audio and/or video signals which transmit programs to an audience.

Communication channel: A communications channel refers to the medium used to convey information from a sender (or transmitter) to a receiver.

Communication tool: Communicators use a variety of tools to create and distribute usable information. Often referred to as a “tool set”, there is no defined list of tools that are used by all communications professionals.

Content Delivery Network (CDN): A content delivery network or content distribution network (CDN) is an intelligent system of computers containing copies of data, placed at various points in a network so as to maximize bandwidth for access to the data from clients throughout the network. A client accesses a copy of the data near to the client, as opposed to all clients accessing the same central server, thereby causing a bottleneck near that server. Content types include web objects, downloadable objects (media files, software, documents), applications, real time media streams, and other components of internet delivery.

Corporate values: Operating philosophies or principles that guide an organization’s internal conduct as well as its relationship with the external world. Core values are usually summarized in the mission statement or in the statement of core values.

Employee information event: A employee information event, staff meeting or town hall meeting is an informal employee meeting. All employees are invited to attend, ask questions and hear the responses from the respective company executives.

Encoding/Transcoding: Encoding/Transcoding is the process of transforming video and/or audio data from one format into another.

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC: is a standard for video compression. H.264/AVC is the latest block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard. The ITU-T H.264 standard and the ISO/IEC MPEG-4 AVC standard are jointly maintained so that they have identical technical content. H.264 is most popular for its use on Bluray Disc, HD DVD and videos from the iTunes Store.

Investor relations: Investor Relations (IR) is a strategic management responsibility that integrates finance, communication, marketing and securities law compliance to enable the most effective two-way communication between a company, the financial community, and its shareholders.

Investor presentation: The majority of publicly-traded companies publish and present their quarterly financial results at conference calls to the financial community through webcasts.

Live Streaming: Live streaming allows users to watch/listen to video or audio content live, i.e. while the actual event is ongoing.

Multimedia: Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. The term can be used for a medium with multiple content forms. The term is used in contrast to media which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.

Media player: Media player is a term typically used to describe computer software for playing back multimedia files. Most software media players support an array of media formats, including both audio and video files, e.g. Flash, Flash Player, QuickTime, Real, Windows Media, Silverlight.

New media: New media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the 20th century. Most technologies described as “new media” are digital.

Press conference: A press conference is a media event in which companies invite journalists and analysts to hear them speak and, most often, ask questions.

Streaming: Streaming media are multimedia that are constantly received by, and normally presented to, an end-user while being delivered by a streaming provider.

Target audience: In marketing and advertising, a target audience, or target group is the primary group of people that something, usually an advertising campaign, is aimed at appealing to. A target audience can be people of a certain age group, gender, race, religion etc.

Video Hosting: A video hosting service allows organizations to make their videos accessible via the World Wide Web. Video hosts are companies that provide space on a server for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity for that content.

Video on Demand: Video on Demand systems allow users to select and watch/listen to video or audio content on demand.

Webcast: A webcast is a media file distributed or presented live over the Internet using streaming media technology. A webcast may either be shown live or on demand. Essentially, webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet.
